There’s nothing quite like the energy of an Asian wedding.
The colors, the music, the mouthwatering food, and above all, the massive sense of family and togetherness, it’s pure magic. I recently had the joy of being the Toastmaster for a gorgeous Hindu wedding, and it was one of those days that reminds me exactly why I love working with people.
When you’re dealing with big families, rich traditions, and hundreds of excited guests, things are bound to get a little fast-paced! My job as a Toastmaster isn’t just about making announcements in a loud voice—it’s about being a warm, reassuring presence, keeping a smile on everyone’s face, and quietly solving every little behind-the-scenes hiccup so no one feels a single drop of stress.
A Burst of Colour, Beats, and Energy
The day kicked off with an incredible buzz. Guests arrived in a stunning sea of traditional wear—vibrant reds, deep emeralds, and glowing golds. A colourful celebration in every sense, the atmosphere was electric from the moment the dhol drums started pounding for the Baraat (the groom’s big arrival procession).
While the groom’s family danced their way to the venue, I was right in the middle of the action—welcoming guests with a smile, helping people figure out where to go, and chatting with venue staff to make sure the transition from the lively outdoor arrival into the calm ceremony space went smoothly. It’s all about reading the room, keeping the crowd happy, and making sure the excitement stays high without turning into chaotic bottlenecks.
Keeping the Sacred Moments Relaxed and Respectful
A Hindu wedding under the Mandap is packed with deep meaning and beautiful rituals, like the Kanyadaan and the sacred Pheras around the fire.
While the priest leads the sacred rites, I’m working behind the scenes to keep the environment comfortable for everyone. Asian weddings are big, chatty, wonderful family affairs! If a key relative needs a better seat, if an elderly guest needs assistance, or if a minor schedule tweak is needed, I step in quietly. My goal is to handle those small details gently so the couple and their parents can sit back, breathe, and truly absorb the beauty of their vows.
Smashing the Photo Chaos and Enjoying the Feast
After the ceremony, we moved straight into family photos and if you’ve ever tried gathering dozens of excited relatives for formal pictures, you know it can get a bit wild!
This is where being a people person really comes in handy. Instead of rigid shouting, I work alongside the photographer with light-hearted energy, calling out groups with humor, keeping spirits up, and making sure no one gets left out. We managed to get every single crucial family photo checked off the list quickly, seamlessly, and with plenty of laughs along the way.
From there, everyone sat down for a fantastic feast. While guests tucked into amazing food and shared stories across the tables, I was busy checking in on caterers, keeping an eye on timings, and making sure the newlyweds actually got a chance to relax and eat!
A Gentle Touch for the Vidaai
The afternoon ended with the Vidaai—the emotional farewell where the bride says goodbye to her family to start her new journey. After hours of high energy, this moment calls for a completely different approach.
I stepped back to give the family space, gently organizing the crowd so the farewell felt intimate, dignified, and calm. Being able to read the emotional tone of a room and offer supportive, discreet direction ensures that deeply personal moments like this get the tenderness they deserve.
Stress Free, Just Pure Celebration
Every wedding has a hundred moving parts behind the curtain—unexpected timing shifts, lost suppliers, or nervous family members.
When I’m on duty, my main priority is making sure you never have to think about any of that. I handle the logistics, talk to the teams, fix the small bumps before they become problems, and keep the day gliding along with warmth and ease.
